Western Michigan University Acquires Mobile Identification Technology

Ashtabula, Ohio, December 7, 2015 –ID Networks, Inc., a leading developer of Public Safety and Biometric Software, announced today that the Western Michigan University Police Department acquired mobile fingerprint identification technology.  Mobile fingerprints taken in the field are searched against fingerprints contained in the Michigan State Police (MSP) Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Next Generation Information (NGI) Repository for Individuals of Special Concerns (RISC) database.

“The many diverse geographical locations of WMU buildings, large student body, large sporting and civic events that are held on campus, along with strong working relationships with other local law enforcement agencies make WMU PD a perfect partner to work with the new ID Networks product” said Douglas Blenman Sr., President of ID Networks, Inc.

“Due to the sheer volume of students and visitors that come to WMU from across the country and the world, WMU officers routinely encounter situations involving persons who have no identification on them.  Having the ability to quickly access the state AFIS and FBI RISC helps officers positively identify individuals in an efficient and unobtrusive manner, while ensuring the entire community that WMU PD is using the latest biometric technology to apprehend wanted individuals and to deter wanted persons from entering the campus”, said Chief Merlo.

“We are proud to be partnering with WMU PD as they utilize this new technology,” said Biometrics Product Manager, Derek Tapper.  “WMU PD officers are already proficient and have provided invaluable feedback in the continuing development of this new technology.”
