Iron County Sheriff’s Office deploys a Regional Integrated Justice Information Sharing System and Countywide Field Reporting
July 23, 2010
Crystal Falls, Michigan - The Iron County Sheriff’s Office, through a 2009 ARRA Justice Assistance Grant from the Michigan State Police Grant Section, has successfully deployed a countywide Integrated Justice Information Sharing System. "This grant funding has been critical to help obtain new technology and computer hardware" said Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano. "We had a great need to streamline our operations and replace an outdated Jail Management and Record Management for the Sheriff’s Office. Now, we have a great crime fighting tool to share with other criminal justice agencies in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”
According to Valesano, ID Networks Public Safety Software Solutions was selected because their system allows other Criminal Justice Agencies to access booking Information, warrants, mugshots, photo lineups, scars/marks/tattoo images, and fingerprints from any computer or mobile laptop with Internet service. Undersheriff Tom Courchaine added “Our new Intel Modular Blade Server is state-of-the-art technology that offers maximum speed and storage capacity to help keep costs down for other departments who wish to participate in regional information sharing. The ID Networks system has allowed us to share criminal information with Local Police Departments, the Circuit Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, Parole and Probation Officers, State Police and the Department of Nature Resources.”
The next phase of the grant project will include countywide police record management for other Police Departments in Iron County and establish a connection to the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office. Schoolcraft County Sheriff Grant Harris said, “I was very excited when we got our JAG grant since we are having financial difficulties here and when I found out Sheriff Valesano was working on a similar project, we worked together with ID Networks to become the first regional agency to connect to the Iron County IJIS system. Now we will be able to share criminal data with other Schoolcraft criminal justice agencies and the great news is we worked together to get this done at no cost to the local taxpayers for either County.”
Doug Blenman Sr. – President/Founder of ID Networks said, “We are very proud to have been selected by Iron County and Schoolcraft County as a technology partner to implement their grant projects. This project is a model of collaboration and partnership between government agencies and the private sector to improve public safety in a cost-effective manner that offers full integration and interface capabilities beyond traditional jurisdictional boundaries.”
